The Antecedents and Impact of Organizational Repository Usage on Innovative Work Behaviour

Abstract:

Organizational memory system (OMS) projects often failed due to design failure, no well-defined short term benefits and no effective index or structure to the capitalized knowledge in the system. Despite the extensive research to measure the effectiveness of an Organizational Memory Information System (OMIS), there is a lack of research conducted to determine the antecedents and impact of organizational repository usage and their relationship at the individual level with innovative work behaviour. Therefore, this study is proposed to determine the employees’ perception of the effectiveness of DDMS and the relationship between organizational repository usage and innovative work behaviour. The quantitative study was conducted in MAMPU, Putrajaya, Malaysia using a survey approach. An online survey method was conducted among MAMPU’s employees. Statistical analysis techniques (SPSS v24) such as descriptive statistics, factor analysis, mediation analysis, regression analysis, correlation analysis and ANOVA were selected for data analysis. Based on empirical result, majority of the proposed hypotheses were supported. The results indicate the three previous selected success models are applicable in the context of Government to Employees (G2E) and e-records management system. The research found that information quality, perceived usefulness and usage are the most significant antecedents for innovative work behaviour. There is no direct relationship found between system quality, service quality and perceived ease of use with innovative work behaviour indicating the constructs do not directly determine innovative work behaviour. It was also found that perceived usefulness is now a more significant antecedent than perceived ease of use for innovative work behaviour. Maturity of the respondents in using various e-application and technological and infrastructure advancement in the public sector has caused the decreases ease of use effect with innovative work behaviour. The study found DDMS users emphasize more on the quality of information that is useful them to complete their task efficiently. The study found positive relationship for organizational repository usage in promoting innovative work behaviour in organizational context. The study has also filled in the knowledge gap related to antecedents and impact of organizational repository usage on innovative work behaviour, improve OMS design and implementation approach. The study also has contributed a significant empirical evidence of return on investment (ROI) for DDMS implementation to Malaysian Government.
