Abstract:

This article explores the problem of unequal distribution of wealth between the interior and coastal regions in Tunisia. In this study, we provide the following methodology and tools to analyse regional disparities. We were able to recover 31 indicators measuring the level of diffusion of different socio-economic aspects in 264 Tunisian delegations. These indicators were grouped into 3 categories: amenities of life, socio-demographic environment, and economic and employment environment. Using a Principal Component analysis we could restructure the original variable in each field limiting itself to 11 factors. Subsequently, we developed a composite index of socio-economic development of delegations to explain regional disparities, to emphasize the mechanisms governing socioeconomic inequalities and to allow a better allocation of resources in Tunisia.
