The development plan focused and still focuses on research, innovation, strengthening the competitiveness of SMEs and supports investments in energy efficiency in Burgenland. This paper focuses on the expectations of the entrepreneurs of Burgenland using an online questionnaire and an expert interview to get more information about the propensity to start in foreign markets and about the conditions needed for export considered necessary by enterprises. Currently, Burgenland’s entrepreneurs see their chances in the foreigne markets and the conditions infrastracture, funding, support to enter the market are better than ever. The trend to globalisation and regionalisation depends on the local structure of the economy and the demand on the home market. In different sectors and in different areas of the world globalisation and regionalisation supersede and coexist depending on the political, economical and environmental situation.
