Improving Public Health Insurance Experience of Patients and Family Doctors’ Work Effectiveness through Lean Six Sigma tools: the European Health Insurance Card – Evidence from Romania

Abstract:

The Romanian healthcare system passes thorough times of chronic crisis, a value crisis, as more and more patients are dissatisfied with the way their requests are treated and more and more family doctors are complaining about the condition of their profession, the low allocation from the state budget, being at the same time overwhelmed by the number of daily appointments, procedures and paper work. Lately, they faced another challenge. The paper presents the application of Lean Six Sigma tools with the view of improving the public health insurance experience of patients and family doctors’ effectiveness of work and some recommended solutions provided through the implementation of two Lean Six Sigma tools: the PDCA cycle and FMEA method applied to evaluate the effectiveness of introducing the European health insurance card in the national healthcare insurance system.
