Change of Students’ Online Behavioural Patterns during the COVID-19 Pandemic: Insights from Poland

Abstract:

In order to extend the knowledge concerning students’ online behaviour and their attitude towards online communication in general, and distance learning in particular, we have conducted a survey for which 1005 students from Poland provided their feedback. The study results confirmed that during the pandemic the number of face-to-face friends dropped, but surprisingly, a similar decrease was noticed in online numbers of friends. A relationship between the changes in perceived wellbeing and attitude towards online communication and distance learning was also detected. Furthermore, the student population is diversified not only on the basis of gender, but also on their experience, and various groups of education stakeholders might have different needs that should be met by educational institutions.
