Case Study: Motion Capture for Ergonomics

Abstract:

Motion capture is one of the techniques used for animating human figures. The human movement is digitalized and made ready-to-use in simulations and other applications. Analyses of working operations in the factory for ergonomics studies are performed both by traditional measuring instruments and by modern technologies. Obtaining the data for ergonomics studies is characterized by measuring time, complexity of movement and obstacles in the workplace.  There are many different ways to capture motion and in this paper we look for the best solution in the workspace with specific requirements. The goal of the following study is to compare traditional methods with motion capture in the workspace with obstacles and discuss their use, advantages and disadvantages. This paper deals with obtaining data for use in ergonomic analyses.
