Abstract:
Expert system is a technology that has driven all knowledge-seeking activities to a new dimension. The basis of this paper was to develop an expert system prototype for private schools by using rule-based system techniques. The main purpose of this system is to guide students and parents to identify the most suitable private school built on their requirements and financial capabilities. This system can provide all the necessary information that the students and parents are looking for, such as school schedule, administration, grades, rules, contact number, location, activities and fees. In order to get that, this system was built by using several data collection methods, required knowledge of this system was elicited from domain experts, member in educational statistics form general directorate of private school and lastly an online based searching system method that helps in getting the necessary information mentioned above. Furthermore, the logic of the system was developed to get the input, output and middle of the expert system, which has been designed in decision tables and rules formats. Moreover, this system was developed using a freeware rule-based shell, with four categories which includes Kindergarten, primary, intermediate and high schools with a friendly interface and easy to use. After development process, the next step was to test and evaluate the system previously interviewed by domain experts and potential users. Outcomes indicated that there is a huge potential to take the developing expert system further step with the feedback and suggestions provided by the domain experts and potential users in direction of improving the system performance in the near future.
