Simplifying the QoS Evaluation Problem for Broadcasting in Vehicular Networks using Hierarchical Fuzzy Inference Systems

Abstract:

The potential of broadcasting in vehicular ad hoc networks (VANET) for offering both safety and non-safety services is quite significant. However, research showed that broadcasting in VANET is very different from other mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) in terms of routing techniques and network special features. Therefore, providing VANET under broadcasting context with best QoS has been since a while a great research issue. But more complicated, is the problem of measuring the whole network QoS. Deciding which degree of service’s quality a broadcasting scheme is achieving and comparing broadcasting techniques performance level with precise numerical values is very difficult. On the other hand, fuzzy logic and its application has usually been a successful strategy to solve such complex problems. In this paper we try to simplify the QoS evaluation problem by proposing a hierarchical fuzzy logic model measuring the system QoS as a crisp value.
