This article aims to explore main factors that influence the role of the Business Administrator in small and medium enterprises (PYMES) in Colombia and other Latin American countries. Therefore, a literature review was conducted that seeks to know how generic and professional competencies are found, based on the tuning project and other studies of institutions and organizations, quantitatively and qualitatively or mixed, the required productivity factors, Competitiveness indicators and what companies need from these professionals, in order to make a comparison against the status found in Colombian reality with the rest of Latin America and know their differences and / or similarities
