A Conceptual Model for e-Learning Service Provider: Applied to Greek Tourist Sector

Abstract:

Entrepreneurs and professionals in tourist sector require continuous training in order to remain competitive and meet the present challenges in the global set. E-learning, is an appropriate medium for delivering the information and skills needed, to manage tourist operations effectively. In this paper an e-learning model for the Greek tourist sector is designed and developed. General e-learning concepts to the tourist sector are approached, while specific characteristics and limitations of the examined sector in Greece regarding the e-learning issues are specified. Furthermore, various business models from the supplier or e-learning provider aspect are presented and analyzed. In order to match the Greek environmental factors to the above models, an integrated framework for e-learning initiatives is suggested. The core of the proposed model is based upon the establishment of a collaborative network of e-learning providers, as well as, the assignment of the management to a specific business entity.
