Abstract:

Through a combination of a socio-technical change model, a social process model and punctuated equilibrium theory, the research question of how this combination of models can be applied to guide research into the social dynamics of information systems development (ISD) is explored. This research investigated IS project success and failure issues by studying the project implementation process and organisational work process, and how the management of the implementation process and interactions between the work process and project process shape the outcomes. Generally, the combination of these IS research models has provided us with a new, practical and valuable way in examining and understanding an ISD as a social process. Despite the limitations associated with this type of research, this study attempts to contribute to the establishment of the understanding of the event trajectory concept, introduced by [30] in order to provide further insights into this area.
