A Coordinated Research Project Focused on Self-assessment of Security Culture in a Polish Private Health Facility

Abstract:

We are the first Polish researchers to be contracted by the International Atomic Energy Agency, Department of Nuclear Safety and Security, Division of Nuclear Security, to conduct a study on self-assessment of nuclear security culture in a hospital. We conducted the Coordinated Research Project (CRP) in collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency and two private Polish hospital’s subsidiaries using radioactive sources and materials. In this article, we publish a sample report from a survey conducted between 2015 and 2018 in one of the three departments at Affidea Poznan: Department of Nuclear Medicine, PET/CT Laboratory Poznan. We describe the course of the study, including its plan and method of implementation. Then we present some of the ways used in the project to analyze, summarize and present the results obtained. This CRP proved to be a great challenge for our team. We brought a lot of experience from this study and from working with two very special types of organizations. Studying and researching culture of security, especially when you are just breaking new ground, is a great adventure.
