A Critical Analysis of the Post-Conference Knowledge Management Practices at Two South African Universities

Abstract:

Universities, annually, spent millions of dollars to give members of faculty and researchers the opportunity to present their research at international and domestic conferences. Conferences serve as platforms to showcase research and exchange information. In the case of nearly all scientific conferences, the conference goers, whether they presented a paper or not, are given a copy of the conference proceedings. This copy that contains all/most of the papers presented at the conference as well as the contact detail of important stakeholders, usually consists of a CD/DVD or even a printed publication. The conference goers are then supposed to take these media back to their workplace where it can serve as input to the university’s knowledge management system.
