A Generic Proposal for Competence Mapping: A Case Study from Information Systems Discipline

Abstract:

This paper deals with some concepts in the field of competences for integrating and establishing relationships, as well as influencing each other. It was possible to establish a mechanism to compare the current state of the organization to the desired scenario on internal competences by understanding this scenario. That entails considering competences as being born by individuals in an organizational environment. Some influencing concepts affect individual career growth that constrains or empower. Related basic concepts are necessary to mention as well, since they will be important when managers assign tasks, considering the specificity and proficiency of individual competences. It is important to consider concepts related to the field of competence and the intended results regarding each sphere of activity. Thus, it is recommended that the organization design a map of responsibilities and attributions to facilitate the diagnosis of any gap or an excessive level of competences present in the organization.
