A Need for Knowledge Management in Intelligent Outdoor Spaces

Abstract:

A lot of research projects are recently focused on developing intelligent environments based on recent achievements in such areas as artificial intelligence, ambient intelligence, and wireless sensor networks. These environments are usually developed for indoor applications, like ambient assisted independent living of seniors or handicapped persons in their homes, and undoubtedly they are knowledge intensive applications. There is a need of intelligent support of various human activities also in outdoor spaces, e.g., streets, forests, or in nature in general, but such solutions are still very rarely developed and published. Because of high knowledge intensity of intelligent environments deployment, it is inevitable to take care about proper knowledge management in such environments. The purpose of the paper is to discuss possibilities for that, considering multi-agent models and a cloud-based solution scenario.
