A novel approach to the electromagnetic field monitoring system within the State Environmental Monitoring in Poland

Abstract:

Today, the electromagnetic field (EMF) is an indispensable element of our environment and occurs virtually everywhere where human habitats have arrived - from large metropolises to small villages. The country is covered by infrastructure that emits EMF as a side effect (e.g. power grids) or intentionally, e.g. as a transmission medium in radiocommunication. Electromagnetic energy, like any other type of energy in too high doses, can adversely affect the environment and the biosphere, hence its emissions are controlled and limit values are defined in the relevant legislation. The principles of environmental impact assessment of EMF generating installations are also defined at the design stage (numerical modelling) and operation, where measurement methods are used. An additional element supplementing the assessment of the state of the environment is the State Environmental Monitoring system, which also includes electromagnetic fields.
