Abstract:
Contemporary research on corporate governance quality and firm value has yielded varying results over the years. This study reviews the extant literature on corporate governance quality and firm value and seeks to chart out new areas which would be helpful to top executives and also to future researchers as there are more current trends that would impact firm value in Nigeria that they should investigate. One of these current important trends is in the new code released in January 2019. The findings of this paper show how inconsistent results rely on the varied measures and methodologies employed and the diverse definitions of corporate governance quality amongst many others. Data was sourced and systematically reviewed from over sixty literature published in peer-reviewed academic journals across recent years. The paper recommended that further research on corporate governance with a renewed focus on non-financial performance and external corporate governance mechanisms should be encouraged.
