The Acceptance of Mobile Learning Innovation and Initiative at Higher Education Institutions

Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to explore factors that influence the acceptance of mobile learning (m-learning) systems by using the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT). There are four main factors that influence the UTAUT model: (1) performance expectancy; (2) effort expectancy; (3) social influence; and (4) facility condition. Purposive sampling used in this study included a total of 205 students from a faculty. Data collected were analysed by using Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS). The findings indicated that the facility condition was the dominant factor influencing the acceptance of m-learning among the students. The results from this study could be used by the operators and lecturers to develop strategies to encourage more students to use the m-learning system.
