Accident insurance – a comparison of premium and value of the vehicle

Abstract:

The paper compares the development of the accident insurance premium with respect to the value of the vehicle in the respective years. The paper aims to verify the validity of the assumption that the decrease in the insurance premium is not consistent with the decrease in the value of the vehicle as well as to quantify financially the possible difference. The data for analysis were obtained from an insurance company operating in the Czech insurance market for 10 years. Three vehicles, representatives of three basic categories of passenger vehicles classification (lower, middle and upper class), were selected. The data obtained were processed using methods of regression analysis and differential calculus. Partial and final results are for clarity presented in charts and graphs. The comparison shows that the decrease in the insurance premium and in the value of the vehicle is different in different years. It is also evident that there are differences in decrease in the insurance premium and in the value of the vehicle between different categories of vehicles, too.
