Activating Teaching Methods in Higher Education on the Example of Student Consulting

Abstract:

Nowadays, the challenge for the University is re-orienting higher education curriculum according to the needs of the industry and society. The traditional lecture has some limitations in developing required by employers skills like communication, leadership or teamwork. As solution, many business schools adopted active teaching approach. They engage students in learning process by using various methods. The authors conducted student consulting project at Polish University. After that an online survey with its participants was carried out. Present paper contain results of pilot study. Vast majority of students expect that educational program enable them to learn efficiently combine theory with practice, develop practical professional skills and make them familiar with the method and tools used in a specific workplace. Most often students admitted that participation in consulting project helped them to develop new skills and competences that are necessary to cope with problems and tasks in business world. Students also learned how to work in teams and develop professional creativity. In addition, respondents made suggestions on how to improve the organization of student consulting project in the future.
