Abstract:
Purpose of the article: It is evident that demographic transition results in population ageing in all European societies, but on a different scale. Life expectancy is rising almost in all European countries, mortality rates are falling in many countries. It is clear that the group of older people in these countries is under focus of politicians with the aim to prepare active and healthy ageing for seniors. The Active Ageing Index (AAI) evidence is an inspiration for policy makers and public to understand the need for a change and its benefits for all. It can influence implementation of senior friendly policies, increase the quality of life and moreover also financial and social sustainability of European welfare systems. Scientific aim: The aim of this paper is to analyse the Active Ageing Index and the position of the Czech Republic among EU countries. Moreover, the National Action Plan for Positive Ageing for the Period 2013–2017 is introduced and compared with AAI to show the common areas of interest. Methodology/methods: To fulfil the aim of the study a detail analysis of the position of the Czech Republic among European countries in four distinct domains of AAI which are Employment; Participation in Society; Independent, Healthy and Secure Living; Capacity and Enabling Environment for Active Ageing was provided. Then the comparison of domains of AAI and National Action Plan for Positive Ageing for the Period 2013–2017 was applied.
