Addressing Social Skills of Autistic Children Using ICT: In Sri Lanka

Abstract:

Children with Autism often fail in performing communication skills. Information and communication technology is enriched  with  audio  and  video  based  capabilities  which  could be  used  to  enhance  social  interaction  and  social behavior of Autistic children. The purpose of the present study is to identify social behavioral problems in Autistic children,  which can  be  addressed  by  a  solution  of  information  and  communication  technology  and  to  develop  a solution based on the analysis. Developed solution will be evaluated with sample sets of Autistic children and will come up with a final conclusion based on the testing results. The proposed solution will be developed align to the local context where Sri Lankan children would benefit further. As this is an ongoing project, authors have discussed here up to design level of the research work. Our study reveals important design considerations to be considered when developing software for Autistic children as well as the architecture of the proposed design.
