Abstract:
This article explores rural library users' information need, seeking behavior, and perceived barriers in using services provided by a rural library. The study employed the ethnographic approach. The research site was at a rural library in Sedanau village, the district of Natuna, Indonesia. Six interviewees were selected based on profession and the amount of visiting to the library. Above all, the findings highlighted the emerging patterns, particularly in regards to the adult user's information need and seeking behavior in finding information required, as well as the perceived barriers in visiting the library. Those finding are useful for developing the information services for the adult user and encouraging them to take the advantage of the rural library. The impact of this research is to improve the role of rural libraries in the rural development in Indonesia.
