“Affordable Enterprise Application Integration Strategy involving Legacy Systems,”

Abstract:

Early software systems (legacy systems) in areas  such as inventory control, human resources, sales automation and database management were designed to run independently, with no interaction between the systems. They were proprietary systems, custom built in the technology of the day for specific needs. Tremendous changes are taking place in the business world today because of the need to tap into enormous global opportunities increasingly being created by Internet. Driven by these opportunities, the migration and integration of legacy systems towards new platforms and operating environments provide an effective strategy for enterprises to maintain their competitive edge. This paper presents a complete application integration strategy for enterprises involving legacy systems. The paper is based on our earlier work and conglomerates previous strategies with  considerable architectural changes and additional
software components. We show that this approach provides a significant reduction in total cost of ownership (TCO), while enhancing organizational overall competency.
