Agent-Based Modeling Approach for Simulation and Analysis of Road Traffic Flow Coordination in Intersections

Abstract:

Traffic congestion is influencing our daily life. We spend a lot of time in traffic when we travel to work, school or shopping. The interest in traffic flow optimization increased and a lot of studies related to ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) were issued. The purpose of this paper is to present a comparison between the traffic configuration methods at the intersection traffic flow management level. This paper brings a comparison between the usage of roundabouts and traffic lights in intersections and shows its influence on vehicles crossing and the time spent to cross the road network. A simulation is done using Road Traffic Library from AnyLogic Simulation Software and the results will be compared and analyzed to see which method is better for travel time reducing and ensuring a good flow of vehicles crossing in intersections.
