An Activity Theory-Based Research Framework to Investigate Adoption of LMSs at Higher Education Institutions

Abstract:

This paper proposes a concrete, qualitative research framework to investigate the adoption of Learning Management Systems (LMS) at Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The framework is grounded in activity theory. The paper starts with a brief discussion of activity theory. It then interprets activity theory to the domain of LMS by proposing a conceptual framework. It is suggested that the framework can be used to assess and interrogate the adoption of an LMS within a specific HEI.
