An Assessment of the Brăila County’s Agriculture Potential

Abstract:

Brăila County represents a well-known farmland area in Romania, characterised especially by crops of grains. The present paper carried out an assessment of the farmland and of the vegetable farming in the analysed county. The research also included a soil qualitative classification and assessment, by relying on land evaluation marks, which highlighted the prevalence of medium or low quality soil. Because of climate changes and of soil degradation, global improvement work must be performed and a good irrigation system must be put in place so that the natural agriculture potential could be optimally exploited. The assessment was carried out by relying on the information taken from the national and county statistical databases and on the scientific papers from the domain-specific literature.
The conclusions reached as a result of the research can provide a basis for developing some models to reduce crop fluctuation in Brăila and for adopting some government support measures to help local farmers, which could lead to a decrease in rainfall-dependent agriculture and to an increase in soil quality.
