An Emergent Synergy Between Skills, Digital Technologies, And Innovation

Abstract:

As digital technologies continue to progress, the skills needed to develop and adopt these technologies have to evolve accordingly.

In this article we intend to demonstrate that there is a circular interdependence between skills, innovation, and digital technologies, where internet users, either being individual users, independent proffessionals, companies’ employees or civil servants have to develop their ability to adapt existing skills continuously and further on acquire new skills to use or develop, as the case, the new capabilities afforded by change in the digital technologies. These continuous process of learning, adapting and in some cases innovating is part of the new concept called ”meta-skills”. Thus, meta-skill approach is a catalyst to emerging technologies. Further on, starting from the general idea of high-order skills, which magnifies and activates other skills, we will emphasize that digital skills empower employees to adapt to shifting responsibilities, become more effient, embrace emerging technologies, further engage with functional expertise and they even drive innovation, utterly including the fact that digital skills amplify and activate other subsequent skills.
