An Empirical Study on Attitude and Behavioral Intention to Use Mobile Learning

Abstract:

The mobile adoption in this study also known as m-learning refers to the use of personal electronic gadgets through the social media and interactions in learning process. The use of new technologies influences young generation, and learning through multimedia and web technology effectively enhances individualised learning which is becoming a popular alternative for formal education.  The objective of this paper is to identify the significant determinants of the students’ behavioral intention to adopt mobile learning based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology model. The data was obtained from 300 students through a survey questionnaire.  The questionnaire developed includes two sections, the first section consists of the demographic information of the respondents while the second section measures the factors namely the social influence, performance expectancy, effort expectancy, facilitating conditions, attitude and the students’ behavioral intention to adopt mobile learning.  Partial Least Squares structural equation modelling was used for the data analysis. The present study substantiates the importance of attitude on the behavioral intention to adopt mobile learning (m-learning). The findings revealed that facilitating conditions and social influence have a significant impact on the attitude towards m-learning; however, performance expectancy and effort expectancy does not have a significant impact on the attitude. The study provides prominent implications for the future research and learning apps development.
