An Evaluation of the Effects of Brexit on Romania’s Economy

Abstract:

Brexit has been an highly impactful subject for newspapers and professional magazines. Opinions expressed in the press regarding the UK leaving the EU and the possible repercussions this would have on the Romanian economy have varied from very pessimistic – concerned over the repatriation of over 170 000 Romanians from the UK and financial losses of over 800 million Euros – to pragmatic, identifying advantages such as a stronger position inside the community and possible relocations of UK companies in our country. This paper does a review of the information published in online media and a scientific analysis of potential effects Brexit might have on Romania. From an economic point of view, an evaluation of potential trade losses suffered by Romania has been laid out as a consequence of shrinking bilateral transactions and eventual diminution of foreign investment due to retreating UK investors.
