Abstract:

Non-profit organisations present an important part of economy and play an increasing role in the development of society. Foundations are one of type of non-profit organisations which has its specifics. And that would be the goal of this article – to present foundations as they exist and function in the conditions of the Slovak Republic. 

We will be also focusing on the current state of affairs and environment in which they exist. Because of the scope of this article, we choose only some aspects of this wide topic. We examine the position of foundations in general and then we will examine what is the role of corporate foundations in Slovakia and the tax assignation in Slovakia and money from it as pertinent to foundations. Our research supports the role of foundations as aggregators and redistributors of money. We found that corporate foundation, while making a smaller portion of foundation, are recipients of an outsized portion of the money from tax assignation.
