An Organizational View of the Impact of RFID on Supply Chain Partners

Abstract:

The idea of automatically collecting information pertaining to individual items and tracing their mobility through their entire life process sounds promising to supply chain partners. Most of the recent attempts at adoption of RFID technologies in supply chains have been technology driven and pushed by one focus partner. The generally accepted view is for each partner to be able to economically rationalise the time consuming and expensive process of adoption of these technologies. The suggested case here is a partial view of inventory processing in a retail store with suppliers who have already adopted the technology in response to mandates by other partners in other chains. The study uses both micro and macro level analysis to examine the possible benefits of RFID adoption in this particular case.
