Secondary data from relevant literature were used in measuring the impact of rewards and recognition in retaining university lecturers. Universities are confronted with the challenge of retaining highly qualified lecturers which affects educational development. The study observed that recognition had a positive impact in motivating lecturer’s thereby increasing motivation and reducing turnover intentions. Turnover intentions among university lecturers negatively impact both students and the university. This study therefore suggests that universities management should ensure lecturers inputs are recognized and adequately rewarded in terms of compensation, salaries, wages, promotions as these are important tools in retaining them.
