Abstract:

The aim of the article is to analyse the preferences of rail passengers in the context of using the results of research to enhance sustainable development. In order to achieve this aim, a method of critical analysis of available secondary research results and a questionnaire method used in primary research were adopted. The author’s own research was conducted on a representative sample of 331 young travellers. On the basis of the available secondary research results, the price, time and modern technology categories and the detailed elements thereof were selected for analysis. The results of the research may be used to formulate a strategy for the sustainable development of transport, contributing to the reduction of road passenger transport in favour of rail transport.
