Application of the FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) Method for the Analysis of Effects and Errors in the Transport of Dangerous Goods (A Case Study)

Abstract:

In the article, the issue of safety in the transport of dangerous goods by rail has been presented. Based on the example of one of the largest enterprises dealing with rail transport in Poland, the analysis has been conducted on errors arising during the loading, carriage and unloading of dangerous goods.

In order to carry out the analysis, the FMEA (FAILURE Mode and Effects Analysis) method has been applied. The use of the FMEA method has demonstrated the main importance of the human factor for the level of safety in the transport of dangerous goods by rail.

The application of the FMEA method for the analysis of safety in the X company in the transport of dangerous goods by rail has enabled the creation of risk tables that have contributed to the introduction of principles on minimizing risks in the transport of dangerous goods.
