Application of the UTAUT Model to Explain the Behavioral Intention for the Acceptance of Big Data Management in Malaysian Higher Education Institutions

Abstract:

Applications of big data management have been growing in popularity and demand which has become a common phenomenon in modern organizations, especially in developed countries. The study investigated factors influencing behavioral intention for BDM adoption in Malaysian public research universities, combining the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology with transformational leadership. Data from 171 university staff were collected through an online questionnaire and analyzed using structural equation modeling software. Results showed significant influences of performance expectancy, social influence, and facilitating conditions on behavioral intention, with transformational leadership moderating the relationship between facilitating conditions and behavioral intention. The findings are expected to inform decisions on BDM adoption, aiming to improve decision-making and teaching-learning orientation in higher education institutions.
