The Application of Resource-based View Theory in the Firm-University Technology Commercialization Research: Review on Literatures

Abstract:

Purpose – This paper discuss related literature on the Resource-Based View of the firm (RBV) theory that being used in order to adapt into context of  Technology Commercialization (TC). The scope of discussion restricted between two parties involved, firm as transferee and university transferor. This part aims to present a narrative literature review of papers published on commercialization, and related factors that being reviewed in RBV perspectives. Design/methodology/approach – The approach taken in the form of a literature review of related papers on the technology transfer, technology commercialization, and RBV. Findings – The researcher identified previous external resources and new possible resources as a basis for understanding of the success of commercialization between university and firm. Originality/value – The paper presents a comprehensive literature review and a rigorous meta-analysis to progress towards an identification of TC success factors defined by resources from the view of RBV. This paper makes several important contributions to the literature review on technology commercialization in general and RBV application.
