Abstract:
Financial security during retirement depends on individual choices. The households may rely only on public pensions, additional private pension programs or/and on family and intergenerational transfers from their children. The purpose of the study is to establish whether Poles are willing to financially support their elderly parents during retirement. The research was carried out using a survey Social Insurance Institution on a representative random group of 1,030 respondents aged 15-75. According to the results, a vast majority of the Polish society claims that parents should receive financial support from their children in old age. Moreover, people who claim that the disadvantaged members of society require financial support from others are also more willing to support their elderly parents.
