Aspects regarding the Areas and the Seeds Production in Romania 2007-2017

Abstract:

The production of quality seed material is a desideratum for Romanian farmers specializing in obtaining certified seed lots. The share of seeds in the total cost of the holding, decreasing at European level, varies between 2% and 15%. The increase in average productivity in the production of certified seeds, a way to optimize farm costs, is mainly based on the investment of farmers in high-tech, the use of certified seeds adapted to the crop area, with HIGH productive and qualitative potential. The research carried out within the project made an evaluation of the productions and of the areas cultivated with seed lots in Romania during 2007-2017. The results of the research have shown a significant increase in average yields per hectare for all categories of certified seeds, the increase in the areas allocated for soybeans, peas and sunflower amid the reduction of those for certified wheat and rape seed. The lack of efficient irrigation systems on the background of climate change leads to the quantitative and qualitative variability of national agricultural seed production. Improving the performance and obtaining high yields requires the use of certified seeds adapted to the crop area, with productive and qualitative potential but also with the use of state-of-the-art technologies. Collecting specialized information is useful for farmers to reduce fluctuations in production and areas sown with seed lots.
