Abstract:
The field of artificial intelligence (AI) is advancing at an unprecedented pace, encompassing the development of advanced methodologies for constructing and training large-scale neural networks using massive data sets generating a huge carbon footprint. This pilot study prepared by semi-structured interview questionnaire fits into the identified research gap and aims to assess the environmental impact of AI-based solutions based on assessments provided by employees from companies related to IT services. The collected data were systematically analysed and critically evaluated, and the results were interpreted in the context of recent literature indicating that today's organisations are not concerned about the carbon footprint produced by AI tools - due to the fact that they are located outside their infrastructure. How sustainable their utilization can be for organisational purposes?. None of the respondents demonstrated knowledge of terms such as green IT or sustainable IT/AI. Obtained results will be used to refine the research tool for the planned main study.
