Abstract:
In an ever growing, dynamic, and globalizing world, business performance is concomitant to the level of commitment attached to each entrepreneurial activity. Amongst small and medium enterprises (SMEs), the commitment of the owner is crucial for the successful take off, running and stability of the business. This study examines the impact of owner-manager commitment and its variables that serve as predictors of business performance. The study was concentrated on the members of Nigerian Association of Small Scale Industrialists (NASSI). Primary data were collected from 239 members of NASSI who are owners of their businesses. 3 hypotheses were formulated and tested using regression analysis to find out the effect of entrepreneurial commitment on business performance. The study reveals that commitment of the owners of SMEs is paramount to the successful, stability, and profitable operation of such businesses. The findings of this research will provide information for new business owner and those considering starting their own businesses. It will extend the frontier of knowledge and also help policy makers to formulate policies that will encourage business owners to be committed to the growth and successful operation of their businesses and facilitate job creation.
