Assessment of Design Thinking Implementation Possibilities in Higher Education

Abstract:

The aim of this article is to discuss the possible areas of Design Thinking (DT) implementation in higher education. Although DT was a tool originally proposed for industry, it can find its implementation not only there. The most suitable areas to use this method are, of course, connected with designing, like engineering or architecture education. However, other fields have been recently described, which include entrepreneurship, healthcare, or management. As the previous experience shows, DT can be useful in many areas but under some circumstances. The one is that its users (e.g., students) should have a proper theoretical background. That is why higher education seems to be the most promising education level to allow using DT methods. This study can contribute to the literature by showing areas of possible DT implementation and for performing broader research about it.
