Assessment Of Food Security Index Based On Selected Indicators: Case Of Tunisia

Abstract:

Since decades, the food security has been the main concern of large number of researches. Different studies have been tackled various measurement methods aiming to quantify the level of food insecurity for some countries. Based on previous studies and indicator availability, 15 factors have been selected to build a unique food security index. Factor analysis method has been employed to determine a comprehensive evaluation of index. A linear regression analysis was applied to assess the relationship between the constructed index, the global food price and the agricultural import value. A negative effect has been detected between the food security index and the food import, which means that food in Tunisia should not rely on food import, thus the Tunisian government should focus on the national agricultural production to feed safely the population.
