Assessment of the Impact of the Energy Factor on the Economic Development of the SCO Countries

Abstract:

The power industry holds a prominent place in the activities of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member countries. The main players in the intergovernmental organization under analysis in the energy sector are China, Russia, India and partly Kazakhstan. It is due to the results of their activities that the SCO achieves high figures in the development of the fuel and energy complex, which are reckoned with and competed with outside its borders. However, absolutely not all countries of this alliance play a significant role not only in the world stage, but also within the SCO. These states are Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan that hinder the development of the energy sector not only in their region, but also in the organization as a whole. However, all the members of the alliance benefit from cooperation in the energy sector. Russia and Kazakhstan have expanded their market outlets for energy resources, supported a more efficient use of the existing potential and resource advantages; China, India and Pakistan got the opportunity to diversify energy resource imports in a higher degree and increase the volume thereof in order to satisfy the domestic needs of the economy and population. Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have acquired advantages in the shape of a certain status due to cooperation with world powers, the acquisition of energy resources at special rates, and the solution of acute social issues.
