Barriers to the Implementation of Green Building in Malaysia: A Preliminary Survey

Abstract:

The world of building sector is now moving ahead towards green building. Some countries moving fast and some are still in early stage (Hanif, 2011). Even though green building provide various benefits for the society, green building development suffers from different kinds of barriers in developing countries including Malaysia. Several green building barriers were identified from the literature and surveyed among Shari and Soebarto (2012), Milad et. al. (2012), Zainul and Awang (2012), Bond and Perret (2012), Hanif (2011), Suliman (2009), Jason (2009), Choi (2009), Yau (2009), and Williams and Dair (2006). Towards meeting the green building development in Malaysia, this study aims to investigate the barriers that thwart the implementation of green building in the private sector in Malaysia.
