Behavioral Intention for Adopting Blockchain in Supply Chain Management: Case Study in Oman Industry

Abstract:

Blockchain is a new emerging technology that can benefit organizations and community in many areas. Adoption of this type of technology needs efforts and has some challenges. It is stated that Blockchain technology can open a new way of doing business in terms of quality, cost saving, tracking and security. Supply chain can take advantage of Blockchain in managing the supply and demand of the organization.

This research aims to identify the factors influencing the intention to adopt Blockchain for achieving supply chain management objectives in Oman. In addition, to explore how Blockchain technology can be used and how it can be offered new advantages in managing the supply chain.

To achieve the objectives of the research, a qualitative research approach, through a case study is conducted in Oman. Interview is selected as a research instrument. The questions are based upon Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) model. This case study is conducted on “Asyad Oman”, which is one of the leading Omani government holding companies. “Asyad Oman” is the premier provider of integrated logistics services in the country. A Purposeful sampling techniques is used for collecting data. 

The research concluded that all the factors in the TOE model are affecting the intention behaviour in adopting Blockchain for supply chain. Furthermore, there are some other challenges such as Blockchain is still in its infancy phase specifically in supply-chain.
