Boundaries of Transport Planning Models

Abstract:

The increasing degree of motorization has led to traffic congestion and its negative effects (pollution, additional social costs, health problems, landscape degradation, increasing car accidents’ number). The degree of motorization of Bucharest is about 850 cars per 1000 inhabitants and it is constantly increasing. Under these conditions, transport planning models must ensure the solution of these problems and ensure the satisfaction of all requests addressed to the transport system in compliance with the social, economic and environmental restrictions imposed by the sustainable development of society. The paper aims to analyse four-step planning models in order to identify its limitations/ difficulties in implementation, so that the solutions obtained by applying them in practice comply with the restrictions imposed by a sustainable development of society.
