Building a Greener Future: Sustainable Education and Employment Trends in the European Union

Abstract:

The future of humanity depends on the level of education of today's children. Precisely for this reason, a Sustainable Development Goal has been dedicated entirely to quality education, to solve problems such as school dropout rates and children's iliteracy, but also the acquisition of relevant skills for the work field, especially for the technical and vocational area. Since quality education is desired to grow, it should be corroborated with the increase of the quality of jobs. In this manner, another Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) to be debated is SDG 8, namely decent work and the improvement of working conditions for all individuals. In this study, for each of the two objectives presented, three targets were analyzed regarding the percentage of early leavers from education and training, but also of young people neither in employment nor in education and training. Added to these targets is the percentage of adults participating in courses, tertiary educational attainment, long-term unemployment rate and in work at-risk-of-poverty rate which will be analyzed for EU27 countries to view their ranking regarding the achieved performances for the fields presented. Also, a cluster analysis will be presented, through which it was possible to determine the grouping of countries according to the values presented by them for the described indicators.
