Abstract:
The paper presents the problems related to low-carbon development in the rural areas in Poland in the context of technical condition of buildings (residential and farm buildings). The publication includes a description of the actual state as well as analyses of secondary and primary data, illustrated with diagrams and tables. The paper presents both the data from official statistics and results of empirical studies on a representative sample of 1101 agricultural holdings in Poland. The research shows that this problem is important in rural areas in Poland, inter alia, due to a high degree of technical wear of buildings and the challenges concerning a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. As it results from the analyses, technical modernizations are necessary both in relation to residential and livestock buildings. The relationships between the needs of agricultural holdings in this scope and the economic size of the agricultural holding are important. Agricultural holdings with a relatively low economic size may need to obtain external sources of funding.
