Business Game in the Process of Purposeful Formation of Professional Communicative Competence of Future Non-language Specialists

Abstract:

Normal classes aimed at improving professional communication skills and abilities represent a system with gradual increase in cognitive activity of students, complexity of intellectual tasks. An important stage in the formation of professional communication skills while teaching English for Professional Purposes (ESP) to the future specialists in agriculture can be attributed to classes conducted on the basis of the business game, conventionally called "Debate". This type of work is the most difficult in terms of organization, and includes tasks directly aimed at the formation and development of professional communication skills. It should be noted that it is the complexity of forms of mental work, rather than language or information saturation, that allows us to separate this type of work into an independent stage. In addition, the business game presupposes the use of theoretical and linguistic material studied in previous classes, and also implies the obligatory appeal of students to new texts on the same topic. To find correct and convincing arguments in the business game, students turn to other sources of information. For modern students the Internet is the main source for information. Students carry out cognitive and search activities, they independently work with numerous texts. Such regular work, which is initiated by the teacher and does not need to be specially controlled, is built on the use of students' cognitive motives, activates their interest in studying the course, creates conditions for healthy competition in the learning process. All of the above has a positive effect on improving the language and communication skills of students, significantly affects the ability to make arguments and express one's opinion, allows us to talk about higher levels of comprehension and elaboration of problem tasks.
